Looking back at the global automotive market in 2022, Chery has delivered a steadily-growing performance in the face of many challenges. In the 25th anniversary of its establishment, Chery made a breakthrough against the trend, creating a historical first in sales and exports.
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, among the top 10 enterprises in terms of vehicle sales in 2022, Chery Group ranked second in the industry with a 28.2% growth rate, significantly exceeding the industry average growth rate of 2.1%. In 2022, 3.111 million Chinese vehicles were exported, of which 452,000 units were from Chery Group, making the company China’s top passenger car exporter for 20 consecutive years. Chery accounted for one out of every seven vehicles exported by China in 2022.
In an era of uncertainty, only innovation can adapt to all changes. Chery unveiled its 2025 cutting-edge technology strategy in September 2022, presenting a ‘Technology Chery’ that breaks the traditional impression of the outside world. Chery’s layout not only spans multiple fields such as traditional core technology and CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Sharing and Electric) technology, but also covers multiple dimensions such as basic systems, cutting-edge technologies, sharing platforms, digital economy, value chain and ecosystem.
The ’Technology Chery’ of today is not only a building elevated layer upon layer, but also a living innovation ecosystem. Many technological achievements have already been applied to its mass-produced products for many years, increasing their competitiveness and contributing to the rapid growth in Chery Group’s sales.
Be it the Q-POWER series widely used in many Chery models, the Lion intelligent cabin enjoyed by over one million users, or the EEA 4.0 electronic and electrical architecture, all are the concentrated manifestation of ‘Technology Chery’ promoting rapid product iterations, allowing them to gain differentiated advantages in each market segment.
In 2022, Chery Group exported over 450,000 vehicles, representing a 68% year-on-year increase. On average, a Chery-made vehicle is delivered to overseas customers every 70 seconds.
The globalisation of Chinese automobiles stems not just from the globalisation of the market, but the integration of talents, technology, supply chain, culture and other aspects. In the process of going global, Chery has stuck to two principles: the first is to share the fruits of cooperation with overseas countries and partners, and to be a well-received partner; the second is to deeply integrate into the global automobile industry chain, promote localisation, to be a local corporate citizen and a local brand, and to jointly contribute to the economic and social development of countries in overseas markets.
In 2022, Chery Group continued to increase the layout and launches of its high-end brands and products in overseas markets, and remains committed to providing global users with the best products and services. Chery has cumulatively exported over 2.4 million vehicles, accounting for 20% of the total export volume of Chinese automobiles over the same period.
Chery has also been upgrading its talent pool, recruiting top global experts in various fields such as styling, chips, software, operating systems and intelligent cabin, as well as establishing a team of chief scientists. Currently, the company boasts over 10,000 engineers and scientists.
This year will see the Chery Group strive to achieve an even greater leap in sales volume, market share and other indicators, with a growth rate far exceeding that of the industry average, towards becoming a world-class enterprise.
